The heating and shaping of metal happens in many locations in The Ruskin Mill Trust. Skilled tutors teach students how to create purposeful items out of metal. At Eyam, we wanted a very traditional forge rooted into the landscape and built from local materials. Our forge is made from gritstone sourced from less than a mile from the site. The larch timbers used are from the woodland directly adjacent to the site. The metalworking tools we purchased are from Sheffield. Students have participated in the building work and in the overall design. They have learned about walling techniques and woodworking and construction.
